The start of the bitter cold hits the winter camp in Fountain Valley; 22 miles of British controlled Philadelphia. President George Washington already in the region, Washington also settled on a site to be better secured in the case of a British assault on the occupied territories of the Schuylkill River.

The especially harsh winter of 1777–1778 was a perfect challenge for American troops and dozens were killed by disease out of 11,000 troops stationed in Valley Forge.

Still, the defeated soldiers were faithful to the Revolutionary cause and President Washington who stood with his soldiers. The men were much more organized and stronger in nature than they ever had when Washeron military marched from the Valley Forge. Nine days later in the fight of Monmouth, they secured the British win against Lord Cornwallis.
