Extra credit meme assignment
instructions: student must create an original meme that covers a subject/person that we
discussed in class (hist 1301 or hist 1302). memes must include 1) an image and 2) text on
the image. remember: memes are typically funny and can be shared with a diverse group of
people. keep in mind the following guidelines:
1. meme must be an original work from the student. the student cannot take a meme off of the
internet to turn in for the assignment; however, images that are necessary for the student’s meme
can be taken from the internet.
2. meme must cover a subject/person we covered in class (hist 1301 or hist 1302). if the
student has a question on what subject/person they can choose, they must ask the instructor.
3. meme cannot ridicule an ethnic/cultural group or be offensive to a particular minority (race,
sex, or gender). student will not get the extra credit points if the instructor concludes that the
meme is offensive. memes often include light-hearted jokes, which will be accepted as part of
this assignment. most students should know the difference between what is acceptable and what
is not.
4. the text on the meme must follow normal english guidelines (spelling and grammar), unless
the spelling is part of the “joke”.
instructor must receive the student’s original meme by the scheduled due date for extra credit
consideration. if the student’s meme meets all of the guidelines, then the student will receive five
extra credit points for their lowest exam grade.
