The nile overflows its banks every year. this made the land close to the river extremely fertile, so that a large population could develop in the area. the nile acted like a highway between different regions, enabling trade, communication and cultural exchange to take place. the nile provided the vital resource of water. without water, no civilization can develop. it was particularly important in this region, as the area is prone to droughts.
