The civil rights bill was passed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on July 2nd, 1964. Before the civil rights act came into existence the blacks were discriminated in southern states and there were Jim Crows laws which allowed a direct attack on black Americans. The act outlawed the discrimination of employment based on race, color, religion national origin and sex, so Amanda could have relied on the statute if she was in the US.
