Religion is probably the easiest  to discuss at least to start with.  Consider the difference between the Old and New Testaments. The OT is based on Law. Obey or perish. It had to be that way. The Israelites were wandering around the desert. It required a uniform obedience to law because it required a uniform response to the necessities of life. People did not have time or energy to devoting time to thought processes. At least that was true in the first 6 or 7 books of the OT. The later parts, Like the major and minor prophets and say Daniel, were quite concerned with how they were going to make contact with God. There was still the element of Obedience, but the culture had changed. It was settled and urban for the most part.

The New Testament is quite concerned about something quite different. Cultural developments had taken place and the major message I think is about human frailty. That means that basic needs have been taken care of. Even some of the authors of the NT already had their occupations fixed. Paul was a Tent maker (dealt with housing), Jesus a Carpenter, Luke a healer. These people were vastly different than anyone in the OT. They based their cultural contribution on higher level thinking.
