During the early 1800s Tecumseh tried to unite American Indian tribes into a confederation. He believed that the land did not belong to a single tribe and separately, the individual tribes did not have much power. All American Indians should unite together against the whites. In his attempt, Tecumseh also used his younger brother Tenskwatawa. Tenskwatawa, known as the prophet, believed that the American Indians had to end their usage of American goods, such as alcohol, iron cookware, and guns. Because of that usage the Master of Life didn't help the Indians. If the American Indians gave up them, the Master of Life would reward his followers. Many Indians found the Prophet's message appealing and came together at his village. In addition, he also visited many tribes west of the Appalachian Mountains and east of the Mississippi River seeking additional support for his confederation.
