What was the three-fifths compromise?

The three-fifths compromise was an agreement between the northern states and the souther states during the constitutional convention in 1787.

Many states in the North did not want to count people who were slaves so they argued to keep them as property instead. However, the southern states wanted to get more representatives in congress so they wanted to count the slaves as population.

nothing certain is known about what happened, but it seems that the country declined gradually, perhaps due to bad government, or, more likely, due to a series of bad harvests, which resulted in widespread and recurrent famine.
