When the election was held on November 9, 1824, Jackson obtained 151,363 votes (other sources speak of up to 153,544 votes) that represented 41.36% of the popular votes; while Adams obtained between 108,740 and / or 113,142 votes (around 30.92% of the popular vote); Clay came third in popular suffrage with 47,545 votes or 47,136 (12.99% of the popular vote); and Crawford was the least voted with 41,032 votes or 46,618 (11.21% of that popular suffrage). Another 6,616 popular votes (1.81%) went to nominees for Democratic-Republican electors not previously committed to any presidential candidate; and 6,230 popular votes (1.70%) to other options.

In the Electoral College the results were Andrew Jackson with 99 votes; John Quincy Adams followed with 84; William Harris Crawford, 41; and Henry Clay, 37.

Although, as has already been mentioned, none officially obtained a necessary majority to take over the presidency, so the election came to the hands of the House of Representatives.
