Explain the different forms of jurisdictions for the supreme court.

In accordance with Article III of the Constitution, the United States Supreme Court has two types of jurisdiction: original and appellate. The original jurisdiction (in which the Court functions as a trial court, such as in border disputes between states) is advised by Article III itself. The Court’s appellate jurisdiction, which makes up 99% of its business, is actually advised by congressional statutes.

The appellate jurisdiction is generally made up of appeals from federal circuit courts and state supreme courts.
