this unit explores the experiences of the first people who lived in oklahoma. it covers how people lived through artifacts—books, diaries, newspaper articles, old technologies, and a host of other items. these artifacts us interpret the past. additionally, cultural artifacts such as art, literature, and music give us insights into what people thought about the times in which they lived.

it is easier to preserve our history today. after all, we live in a highly connected world where so many interactions are documented electronically. if you had to make a time capsule to teach people a century from now what life was like in oklahoma today, what would you include? what artifacts of today best represent what life is like where you live right now? what if your time capsule could contain only three items? how would you narrow down your choices?
