The Germans actually wanted the British and the French to give them some of their own colonies, and in order for conflict to be avoided the Germans were actually granted several colonies in Africa. The Germans were not satisfied with that and wanted much more, so once there was a spark, the war started and became one of the worst things that had happened to the humanity.
