Why did the ayatollah khomeini have strong feelings against the united states government

Strict adherence to Islam was at the core of Khomeini's domestic policies. However, hatred of the United States, because of U.S. support for the shah, was at the heart of his foreign policy. The shah westernized his country and tried to weaken the political influence of Iran's conservative Muslim leaders who opposed Western influences.
