Why did early americans fight for the bill of rights?

Early Americans felt that the government had too much power of them and was not respecting their rights.

For example, the Quartering Act of 1774 gave the government the ability to house troops in American homes without the owner's consent.

1st amendment: freedom of speech, religion, petition, press, and assembly

2nd: right to bear arms

3rd: quartering of soldiers

4th: search and seizure
