In Lincoln’s interest, preserving the Union and reestablishing its reputation, was one of the goals he was hoping to achieve. The need to abolish slavery in the south, was one of the motivators of his campaign. The north had advantages such as: larger population, established government, factories to produce supplies, and more money. On the other hand, the south had well recognized military leaders and better knowledge of the land. One of the most beneficial outcomes of the Civil War was the emancipation act, which stated and declared that all slaves in the confederate states would be free.
