Then the city of Ellsworth, outside the Chisholm Trail turned into the newly cowtown together with other places as Newton and Wichita that welcome the cowboys, with this a new route to Dodge City grew and The Western Cattle Trail became the most used trail rather than the railhead of Chisholm.

Some say the Chickasaw Indians also contributed to this shift in 1869 because they start to tax the cattlemen.
