Briefly describe mexican immigration to the united states from 1910 to 1920.

Although not the only time that people from Mexico immigrated into the United States, it is now known that one of the biggest waves of immigration from this Latin American country took place during the years of 1910 to 1920.

Between the 1900´s and the 1930´s Mexico suffered through a great wave of political and social turmoil that destabilized the country and produced mass displacements of people. Because of the lack of job opportunities, and especially the damage caused by the violence and political unrest to the agricultural production, people migrated from their homes to look for chances. Many peasants, especially during the Profirio Diaz´s presidency that ended in 1911, lost their lands. And the best chance Mexicans had of finding new opportunities was north of their borders, in the U.S.

On the side of the United States, many new and big companies, especially on the agricultural economy, were looking for laborers, especially cheap labor and they found their answer on the needy Mexicans who were already migrating into the U.S. Particularly in this time period, 1910 to 1920, it was recorded that tens of thousands of Mexicans had migrated into the southwest United States and located themselves there to work as farming hands. Mexicans faced a lot of discrimination and trouble, especially because at this time the U.S Congress had decided to pass several laws that invited discrimination and segregation towards all minorities. But nevertheless, the need for chances forced Mexicans to face the situation.

in 1897, pershing became a tactical officer at west point, and that's where he was given the nickname "black jack." pershing's first name is "john," for which "jack" is a nickname, and he was a white man who commanded black troops. hence "black jack".
