What lessons did each side take away from the first battle of bull run?

The First Battle of Bull Run demonstrated that quality can be better than quantity, than knowledge and training works better than number, that is not a good idea sub-estimate an enemy because of its size; and especially taught both sides, that the Civil War was not going to be the simple adventure many believed it would be.
