Many people believed communists to be dangerous extremists, and they were worried about the possibility of them gaining power in the United States. This is known as the Red Scare. A. Mitchell Palmer reacted to this fear by trying to prevent a "radical" revolution. He conducted a series of raids intended to stop revolutionary plans before they started. I disagree with Palmer's efforts. While some monitoring might not have been a bad idea, the paranoia that was created during these years only led to people becoming more confused about what it meant to be communist.
