"Though they prepared for war, the colonists hoped for peace. Still considering themselves English citizens seeking to protect their rights within the empire, the colonists attempted to restore relations with England one last time. The Second Continental Congress sent a letter called the Olive Branch Petition to King George III in July of 1775. The letter declared colonial loyalty to the king and asked him to end the harsh British policies so peace could return between England and the colonies.

The king, however, rejected the petition and issued a new declaration shown on this page. Declaring the colonies in rebellion, he called for stiffer measures against them. He announced a British blockade to keep colonial ships from leaving their American ports. He further declared that he would send paid German troops, called Hessians, to join the British soldiers in America. George wanted to force the Americans to submit to his will. There would be war."

In my honest opinion , i’d say franklin d roosevelt was a president that impacted our nation , i say this because fdr is voted among top three best us presidents and he was the longest serving president by 3 terms , usually presidents only supposed to have two terms increments of 4 years , equivalent to 8 years total before election time. and he established the fdic , through the 1933 banking act and he established the us , social security system , during his presidency, and established a national minimum wage , through the fair labor standards act , fdr led the allied coalition to victory in wwii and he played a major role in the creation of the united nations.
