They built Jamestown because it was close to water and they were able to establish a thriving community. Dare county, North Carolina Roanoke Island Sir Walter Raleigh founded Roanoke Island in 1585 because they wanted a permanent North American settlement that would distupt the Spanish shipping, mining for gold and silver, finding a passage to the pacific Ocean, and Christainizing the Indians. Today at the Roanoke Island Festival Park they have historic costumed interpreters that are featured throughout the Settlement Site and the Elizabeth II ship to demonstrate how the first settlers lived, worked and played on Roanoke Island.

The buildings are very quaint or old-fashioned. They named New Orleans in honor of Duke of Orleans. It was an important trade route and once was the territorial capital of French Louisiana. According to the French History in New Orleans "restaurants such as Galatoire’s and Antoine’s still thrive with traditional French menus and the French influence on our cooking is vast. We celebrate Bastille Day like natives and made Mardi Gras our own."

Green Bay, Wisconsin La Baye VerteJean Nicolet was a French explorer who founded Green Bay in 1634, it was named this because of the greenish colored water. Its was established because in 1655 a fur-trading post had been established and Green Bay was the gate way that connected Fox, Wisconsin, and Mississippi rivers. Green Bay was a small town with a gate way to a trade route. At the Wequiock Falls County Park in Green Bay they have a statue of their founder Jean Nicolet.
