The reverend Oliver Brown’s daughter was not allowed to study in the school of her neighborhood because it was an only-white school and she was black. Then, he and other black parents went to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and asked for help to fill a lawsuit against the board of education of Kansas in order to stop discrimination of students in schools because of their race or skin color. The NAACP was encouraged to become involved in this case because of the Supreme Court’s decision in McLaurin v. Oklahoma, that had resolved George W. McLaurin, a black man, could study in the same university facilities as his white classmates in the  University of Oklahoma.
