How did government deregulation affect savings and loans banks?

During the Great Depression in the United States, it was a lack of government regulation (also known as deregulation) that negatively affected savings and loans banks, since this meant that the banks were able to make risky loans, which ultimately devastated the economy. 

Do you have more info about it ? i doubt this is the answer because i don't have all the information but if trouble was brewing in a clinic maybe it was an argument as to which clinic was better or smth of that nature
