Explain how the puritans viewed people who did not conform to their rules

The Puritans viewed non-believers as outsiders and sinners.

Those that did not conform to Puritan beliefs were not allowed to live in their community. The Puritans left England because they wanted to create their own separate community based on their beliefs.

People who had come to the New World and questioned the beliefs of the Puritans were often exiled out of the colony. The Puritans settled the Massachusetts Bay colony and after some time, some members began to question the direction of the colony and beliefs. Roger Williams was banished from the colony for his differing beliefs. Williams created the Rhode Island colony and was joined by Ann Hutchinson some years later for also being banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Hutchinson questioned the leadership and was in turn exiled.
