Why did early settlements first develop along rivers? people could use tools to dig ditches. plants and animals were more abundant. floods provided water for crops. people could mine for copper and gold.

Early settlements did not know agriculture, so they depended on hunting, fishing and gathering.

If they wanted to be successful and not starve ti death, they might have wanted to find a place where food and fruit where available and abundant, until they found rivers.
