If someone (say, native americans or mexicans) were in the way of americans moving westward, what would someone who believes in manifest destiny feel empowered to do with these people?

Slaughter them? 0.0 or get rid of,? after all, people who believed in the Manifest Destiny thought that it was inevitable and justified that americans expand towards the West. Like, when americans forced to move the Native Americans to the 'Indian territory' because they were in the way. I believe that event was called the trail of tears.
