Why was lincoln frustrated with the union generals?

Lincoln had a very aggressive strategy for the war. Who would have known, Lincoln, a lawyer with no military training or background got this strategy perfected(correct). When he got it correct, the generals on the other hand, did not. During the war they did not use the given strategy for the war.
