Which must be true of the structures of axons and muscles cells in order for nerve impulses to stimulate muscle contraction?

While you didn't provide an answer here, what must be true is that they can release a neurotransmitter which then affects the muscle cells and signals it. Without this process of signalization, muscle cells do not contract because they did not receive any information that they should contract in the first place.
