When the patient identifies both anti-manic medications like lithium or anti-convulsants like valproic acid then it is a sign that the patient has understood the type of medications that can be helpful to reduce the mood swings that are common in bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder can also be helped without medications by providing the affected person with a suitable place to live, someone to do activities with him/her during the day and having loving helpful parents and family especially to help with the depression part.
