He feels like keeping the peace is more important than how he feels. He is afraid that if he does stand up for what he believes, he will be considered selfish. I would tell Paul that he should not care of what others think since he deserves to be able to have a voice. He should say what he wants so he could be heard and so that he won't receive the leftovers. If Paul doesn't change now to become more assertive, he won't he successful in life since many other people are willing to speak up to get what they want, but if Paul doesn't say anything and let everyone gets what they want, everyone will assume that he likes leftovers. So its best to change hos habits now as it is not good to give yourself the leftovers. He deserve what he wants and it is not selfish. If he says that, that means he basically is calling everyone selfish. Everyone has different opinions and people who do not agree to disagree, are not open minded and he should stay away from those people.
