Tara saw her nephew Daren fall out of the tree he was climbing. When she reached him, he was lying on his back on the ground, awake, but in pain. One leg was strangely twisted. Tara ran into the house, called 9-1-1 and told the emergency medical dispatcher what has happened. Then she ran back to Daren, who was pale and appeared restless. What can Tara do to care for Daren until EMS personnel arrive?

The first thing Tara should do in this situation is to firmly reassure or comfort Daren that everything is going to be fine. Tara should be calm and think rationally and avoids stressing or panicking her injured nephew.

Second thing to do is check for any major injuries like broken bones, bleeding from visible places or fractured bones. But, don't move the victim because it may worsen the hidden injuries.

Tara should also check if Daren is responsive. Is he in shock? Can he speak or respond if she called his name? If she was aware of any bleeding apply firm pressure with a clean pad whilst awaiting the First Aid kit.
