Define the concept" risk behavior" and explain why it is important for teenagers to investigate and be knowledgeable about it

According to Trimpop (1994) as “any consciously, or non-consciously controlled behavior with a perceived uncertainty about its outcome, and/or about its possible benefits, or costs for the physical, economic or psycho-social well-being of oneself or others.”

In simple words, risk behavior or “at risk behavior” means any action or activity that can cause potential harm to the individual or their community as a consequence of what they choose to do.  Many behaviors are risky for your health and happiness. These risk-taking behaviors include dangerous driving, drug use, speeding, an unhealthy diet, engaging in violent behavior and dangerous activity.  

Risk behavior is seen in adolescents as well as adults, but adolescents and teenager take more risks than any other age group.  It is often believed that teens engage in risky behavior because they are not very good at evaluating risk. Communication and information about the risk behaviors and its consequences are crucial. It helps teens learn how to make responsible decisions for themselves and build caring relationships. They also need to be aware of what they should do if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
