Pete's Cookies
The first ingredient the recipe called for was flour. Pete got out the flour canister, put the flour in the
measuring cup, tapped the cup to be sure it was full, and leveled it off. The next ingredient was brown
sugar. Since the grains seemed to stick together, he tried to sift the brown sugar to separate the
grains. Then the recipe called for butter or margarine. Pete found some sticks of margarine in the
refrigerator. He needed a cup of margarine, so he used two one-quarter pound sticks. He also
needed three-quarters of a cup of milk. He poured the milk into a size 12 measuring cup and a size 1/4
measuring cup giving him 3/4 cup. Next, he had to measure two teaspoons of baking powder. He got a
teaspoon from the table silver and took two scoops of baking powder, leveling off each one.
