On the Sun, the photosphere contains dark spots, darker and cooler than rest of photosphere. The sunspots have a temperature of 3800 kelvins as compare to the sun with a temperature of approximately 5800 kelvins.

With a diameter of up to 50,000 kilometres, they are massively huge but very small in comparison with the sun's diameter which is approximately 1400 million kilometres. The sunspots are caused by the sun's magnetic field in regions which experience greater magnetic activity and due to release of solar flares, energy, and big storms.
