The people who founded the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, also known as the mormons, moved to the dry land of utah in the year 1847. they followed their leader brigham young and ended up around salt lake city, in the semiarid foothills of the wasatch mountains. what would have been the primary reason behind this group moving west in the mid-1800’s? Mormons were moving to the dry land of Utah because they are seeking political and religious freedom. They began to plan their great movement from one part of something to another, like from east to west after Joseph Smith was been murdered; the Christian sect’s first leader and founder. But after 2 years Brigham Young the successor of Smith led a migration of oppressed Mormons along the wagon trails of the west, where they are searching for their sanctuary across the rocky mountains; they are investigating Utah’s Great Salt Lake Valley. Young did not arrive until July 24, 1847, due to illness. He and his companions begun to build the future the Salt Lake City at the foot of Wasatch Mountains.
