What is meant by the contour interval on a topographic map

A contour line is a line drawn on the topographic map to indicate ground elevation or depression. A counter end of all is the vertical distance or difference in elevation between contour lines. If the numbers associated with the contour lines are decreasing there is no decrease in elevation.
