How could two species that evolved on separate continents have many similarities?

Apart from pangaea, the large continent made of all the continents today, the ice age may be another reason. during the ice age, some parts of the ocean were frozen, therefore animals could also travel to different continents, but when the ice melted, they couldn't go back.

Well scientist think that the earth used to have one mega continent called pangea.it later broke into the earth we see today.but that could explain why multiple species that are miles away from each other cold have similarities.
