South Korea have a similar kind of setting like Japan . Their resources are limited and have considerable amount of fertile land but can not drive export. Like Japan, South Korea are heavily dependent on  IT and service and that is what drive their economy.

North Korea also have abundant Natural resources like granite, coal, iron and rare earths  . They have a reasonable fertile land for productive farming but not enough to drive export . Moreover, North Korea are under sanction.
