The FTA stands for Free Trade Agreement. Canada and the United States established this trade agreement in 1988.
In  1994 Mexico joined this FTA and was superseded by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). NAFTA came into force in 1994. Its purpose was to create a trilateral trade bloc in North America.
