A glacier is a very slow moving mass or river of ice formed by the accumulation and compaction of snow on mountains. The glacier can create lakes because the ice from the glacier erodes the land surface and carries the broken rocks and soil debris far from their original places, forming lakes or other interesting forms. An example of a lake formed by glacial processes would be the Great Lakes.
