1. why do astronomers think that there may be other advanced civilizations?
because  it was discovered that there are other planets like earth out there, able to  accommodate life forms.
2. what technologies are astronomers using to look for life on other planets? why?  
they  have used radio telescopes, but now they use laser telescopes   to track laser communications.

Flat sument on a levaled playing feild would work best 

The answer is  pressure from overlying rock transforms organic matter into liquid form. 

The salinity of ocean water increases with depth as the lower we go there will be more salt which has settled down, as the ocean depth increases the pressure also increases as more water is pushing down on you.
