The factors that encouraged many Somalians to leave their country in the 1990s and 2000s and seek refuge in the United States include:

Somalia is a country in Eastern Africa that has faced many years of civil unrest, political conflict, natural disasters, poverty, food shortage, etc.

The political leaders in the country wanted to stay in power for an extended period of time, this led to the formation of militia to try and topple the government.

In the wars that ensued, there was food shortage, famine and untold hardship for the people of Somalia. As if this was not enough, they began to face natural disasters.

These were some of the factors that led the Somalians to seek refuge in United States in 2006 and 2007.
