Brazil was the first Latin American nation to establish diplomatic relations with India in 1948. The ties were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2006, opening a new phase in the bilateral relations.[1] Both the countries are members of BRICS, G-20, IBSA and G4, and aspire for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.

The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations of India in 2020.[1]

According to a 2013 BBC World Service Poll, only 26% of Brazilians view India's influence positively. Indians opinion on Brazil is also sharply divided, with 20% viewing Brazil positively and 18% viewing Brazil negatively
