This zone is the closest to the shore. The sunlight manages to penetrate in it, so it is a zone where the majority of the producers are able to survive and thrive because they can perform the process of photosynthesis. Since this zone enables the producers to thrive, and the producers are the basis of any ecosystem, it enables the further existence, high diversification, and thriving of all the other living organisms in the freshwater biome.
