Alfred Wegener postulated the theory of continental drift in the early 1900s.

Wegener's theory lacks a supporting mechanism to drive his purported theory of continental drift. There are two main types of crust, the continental and oceanic crust. The crust is rigid and solid. It rests on the mantle, and it is not capable of moving on its own. With the upper part of the mantle, the crust makes up the lithosphere (plate) which can easily move over the plastic asthenosphere. Wegener failed to highlight this.  

The climate and weather conditions of most areas the fossils were discovered are quite similar. Similar organisms inhabit most of the tropics. This can also be said of continental regions in time past. They could have supported related organisms at different places in as much as the climate is similar.
