Explanation:

a) In the bag there were lots of candies, chocolate and caramel ones.

b) Nicholas thinks his grandma is really nice/neat/great. (The world chouette can mean any of these)

c) When they sat down for dinner he wasn't hungry anymore. (He had eaten all the candy)

d) At the end of the meal, Nicholas's mother sent him to lie down right away as he wasn't feeling well and was sick.
