The real  In the 1960s, a majority of French people bought their groceries from -petits commerçants- in their area. They bought their bread from -la boulangerie-, they got pork from -la charcuterie-, and cheese from -la fromagerie-. Even though many people still choose to shop in les petits commerçants because the food there is often fresher and the people there are friendlier, times have greatly changed in France. The growth of the supermarket in France has greatly changed the way French people shop.

At this point in time, more and more French people are buying their groceries at the supermarkets because:

1. the prices are often less expensive

2.It's more convenient to go to one store instead of five small stores.
