The Nuremberg trials were tribunals held for the purpose of making Nazis pay for their crimes. Hermann Goring was the main target of the prosecution because he had become the Nazi leader with the highest-ranking and Adolf Hitler's designated successor since Hitler's suicide. Goring also committed suicide: he killed himself the night before his execution in 1946. He had been convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity and conspiracy.
