Friar Lawrence is instrumental in the development of the plot, and an imporant force in bringing the lovers' fate about. Both lovers repeatedly ask for his advice, and because he has good intentions, he often helps them. The Friar advises the couple to think about their actions carefully and not rush. However, he still marries them. Moreover, when they need an escape plan, the Friar helps them devise the plot, and even gives Juliet the poison. The consequences of his advice, however, are negative and they lead to tragedy. Although the Friar has good intentions, he ultimately makes the situation worse.
