In Chapter 8, Dr. Jekyll's butler, Mr Poole had approached Mr. Utterson, a lawyer and close friend of his master for help regarding the recent occurrences in the house. When Poole took him to the house, he claimed that maybe Jekyll was just undergoing one of his usual maladies and that there is no need for concern. But Poole insists that the thing he saw n the lab wasn't his master, for according to him, Jekyll "is a tall, fine build of a man, and this was more of a dwarf.” This shows just how Poole based his master's image according to his appearance, and so the person in there cannot be him.
