In lines 126–136, maya tells a story about a student who immigrates to the united states from cambodia. how does this story advance, or add details to, the plot’s rising action? “what is wrong? ” my voice came out as a whisper. i felt such terror i could barely speak. “what’s that? ” mr. walsh couldn’t hear my whisper. “what is wrong? ” i tried to speak more loudly. “she didn’t say. she just asked me to find you since i was heading down the hall anyway.” i suddenly remembered sunstar sysavath, who was in my esl class last year. her family came from cambodia, and on her first day at beacon she was in the wrong line in the lunchroom. mr. walsh went to her, and he tapped her on her shoulder to get her attention. when she felt the tap and saw him, she lifted her hands in the air as if she were being arrested and about to be shot. people who saw this in the lunchroom laughed, but it wasn’t a joke. sunstar was filled with terror. i knew i wouldn’t be shot, but walking with mr. walsh to the office seemed like one of the longest walks of my life.
